Events between April and June 2008 will be produced in partnership with Mandarin in Bath, supported by a festival grant from CHINA NOW.

Wednesday 9th July
HAIKU WORKSHOP
10.30am- 12.00pm
Poet Caroline Heaton will lead this, the first in a series of adult workshops this summer on the art of writing haiku, the beautiful poetry which distills experience and encapsulates the spirit of Japanese culture.

Wednesday 23rd July
PRECIOUS ADORNMENTS SLIDE SHOW & TALK
10.30am -12.00pm
Join Bradley Rowe, collector of Tibetan nomadic ornaments, as he presents them in their everyday, functional yet fascinating context. Bradley will also be bringing along some other pieces not in the exhibition, which visitors will be able to handle and examine more closely.

MANDARIN TASTER SESSIONS FOR CHILDREN 2.00-3.30pm
Mandarin In Bath will be running this opportunity for young learners to learn some Mandarin Chinese.
2-2.45pm: 3-6 year olds + free accompanying adult
2.45- 3.30pm 7- 11 year olds.

SHADOW PUPPETS WORKSHOP
2.00 - 4.00pm
Discover shadow puppets from the museum’s collection by trying them out yourselves! Then design and create your own shadow
puppet to take home with you.

BUDDHISM AND ART PRESENTATION

Highly recommended presentation by artist and writer John Danvers on the connections between Buddhism and modern & postmodern art. John is Teaching Fellow and head of the MA Fine Art programme at Plymouth University and has lectured and exhibited work internationally.

Wednesday 24th September
THE FOUNDATIONS OF CHINESE POTTERY
3.30-4.30pm
Oriental ceramics specialist Eddie Field will present a lecture with slides, tracing the development of this art from prehistory, also looking at the adoption of the kiln, wheel and glazes.
