The Museum shop sells an extensive range of cards, gifts and books along with high-quality handmade reproductions of ancient ceramics, beautiful and exotic tea-sets, gifts for children, folk art and authentic gifts from Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, China and throughout Asia, also including many items inspired by the Museum’s collection.
Earlier this year the MEAA shop began stocking handmade Fairtrade rugs and other felt products made by a woman’s cooperative in Kyrgyzstan. The rugs and seat covers are a beautiful and unique discovery, unlikely to be found anywhere else in the area. Museum Publicity Officer Linsi Parker-Turner commented that as a registered charity the Museum feels that it is important to support other organisations that work to ensure labourers around the world have a sustainable position and are not marginalised.
Along with the Kyrgyz felt products, the shop is already building up its stock of Lunar New Year gifts traditionally given in East Asia at the time of the Lunar New Year such as tiger pillows, tiger hats and shoes for infants, and dragon hanging decorations.
As well as being able to find something for everyone, from small gifts to one-of-a-kind treasures, shoppers can be reassured in the knowledge that their cash is helping to support a wonderful and unique local attraction.
