Welcome to China at the Museum of East Asian Art An exhibition entitled Welcome to China opens at the Museum of East Asian Art, Bath on 9th January 2007. With China's increasing global significance and the host of the 2008 Olympics, this show aims to introduce and uncover some of the defining historical, cultural and contemporary characteristics of this intriguing country. For 1000's of years China was one of the most dominant world powers. Even though it was overtaken in the last two centuries by western supremacy, China is now re-emerging with a renewed sense of importance and relevance in today's modern world. Illustrating the traditional and contemporary aspects of Chinese culture with historical and modern artefacts, this exhibition gives a fascinating snapshot of China's ever changing society. Investigating themes such as living, eating, clothing, learning and travelling, the objects on show will demonstrate elements of cultural consistency and change which have retained their significance despite the country's rapid development. This exhibition is therefore perfect for those visitors who want to understand more about China and its culture. The exhibition is on display at the Museum of East Asian Art in Bath until 15th April 2007. The exhibition will be complemented by an events programme including tours, talks, workshops and handling sessions all based on the theme, Welcome to China. Some of these events will be led by co–curator of the exhibition PhD student Vivian Ting, whose passion for cross cultural understanding is reflected within the exhibition. The Museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm and Sundays from 12noon to 5pm. ENDS |
